Engineer Visit
On Wednesday the 21st of October, Shane Kelly (a software engineer from AVAYA) came in to talk to us about engineering and programming. We learned a lot from him and he even showed us some cool new tricks on Scratch.

Soil Experiment
Some photos from our Science experiment on Soil
First, we mixed some soil and water together in a jar.
We allowed it to settle for two hours and this was our result.
Four hours later, the soil had separated from the water and sunk to the bottom of the jar. The water had become almost clear again.

Gardening with Kay!
We are really enjoying the sunshine and spending as much time as we can outside.
We have been weeding the school's garden, collecting seeds that we will plant in Spring and getting advice from Kay about what we could plant for the Winter.
Kay showed us some edible flowers and leaves in our garden and some of us even tasted them!
We even got our hands on a GIANT parsnip that was grown in the senior school's garden.

Welcome Back!
Welcome back to school everyone!
Our First Holy Communion will take place on the 23rd of May.
Our topic this month is "Ourselves". We will be learning about caring for ourselves, our bones and muscles, our senses and thinking and talking about when we were babies. We will also be learning about healthy eating and the importance of a healthy lunch.
In maths we will be doing lots of revision and addition and subtraction all the way to 100. We will be playing lots of maths games and working hard on our mental maths. Here is a good website for learning your tables www.learningplanet.com.
In English we have started our shared readers and we will soon start our class reader. We will be making weekly visits to the school's library. It would also be a good idea to join Ballybane library as reading is so important in 2nd class.
We will be trying to speak a lán Gaeilge sa seomra ranga. Here are some dánta we are learning at the moment.

2nd class is a very busy and fun year for the children. Along with all the preparations for First Communion and First Confession, the children will be going swimming for the first time.
