Our Trip to the Junior Spider Awards

We woke up very early to go to Dublin. The Helix was very big. In the Helix we showed people our school website. I had fun going around looking at other schools websites with Jeffrey. I took part in a dance competition and I won! I had a brilliant day.

Ronan Bombara 2nd class.

It was very dark when we were on the bus. We were very lucky to be able to go to Dublin. We helped to mind some of the infants. We had to have our lunch in The Helix. We got lots of free goodies.

I had lots of fun and would really like to go again.

Keeli McCaul 2nd class.

On the way to Dublin there were hail stones. When we got to The Helix there was a WII. Me and Keeli played on the WII. We had to show off our website. We were interviewed and asked questions about our website. It was a fun day, that was full of surprises!

Marina Paiva 2nd class.

On the way to Dublin I felt very tired. When we got to The Helix I was very hungry. I talked to people about our website. I walked around looking at other websites. There was lots of free stuff for us.

We had our picture taken and it might be in the newspaper. Jack Wise the magician was there. I was very happy because our day out was even more fun then I thought it would be.

Christmas preparations!

We have been learning about Advent. We are busy getting ready for Christmas. We have made a class Advent Calendar and are counting the days until Christmas. We have begun decorating our classroom and have posted letters to Santa. We are also practicing for the Carol Service.

Carol Service

The Carol Service will be on the 21st of December at 7pm. The children will receive a note home nearer the time. We look forward to seeing you there!!

Healthy Eating!

We have been learning about eating healthy and how important it is to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. We made smoothies using different fruits. They were very tasty and very good for you. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO EAT YOUR 5 A DAY! Also, Friday is treat day so healthy lunches every other day!

Aladdin comes to our school!

Last Wednesday, we had a theater group come to our school. They put on a performance of Aladdin. We all really enjoyed the play and some children even took part.

Hurling

Every Tuesday, we take part in hurling training. We are learning lots of new skills and having great fun. Gerry is our hurling trainer and he is very good. One day, we hope to be as good as him!

Bird watching

On Monday, Tom the birdwatcher came to our class. He did lots of activities with us. We made origami birds, drew birds and learnt about birds from around the world and in Ireland. We had a very enjoyable afternoon and hope that when the weather gets better, Tom will be able to bring us out bird watching.

Science week 2011

We did lots of experiments during science week. We did colour mixing and made colour spinners. We investigated if wax is water proof. We made our own soap and even made a volcano! We were very lucky to have a "Bubble Magic" show visit our school.

We are taking part in the Junior Lego League this year. We can't wait to start on our own projects and inventions. This years challenge is called "Snack Attack!" Check out the website to see what we will be doing:

Healthy Teeth experiment
In science we have been learning about our bodies. We did an experiment to show how bad fizzy drinks are for your teeth. We put one egg in water and another in coca cola. The egg in the coke went brown and dirty. It took a lot of brushing to get it clean. The egg in the water was really clean and bright.

Getting ready for Halloween

We have started getting ready for Halloween. This week we put up decorations and made pumpkins. Next week we are going to make ghosts and Halloween cards. We will also be reading lots of spooky stories and writing our own yucky spells!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!

Welcome back! We are having a great start to the new school year. Our topic this term is "Ourselves" and we have been doing lots of work across the curriculum. At the moment we have a student teacher in our class, she is called Ms Kirwan. Next week we are going to see a play in the Black Box. Soon we will be getting ready for Halloween!!!
